Little Free Library Indiana Update

March 2, 2012

Ten people attended the most recent meeting for Little Free Library Indiana. Several new faces. Word seems to be spreading!

Here’s a little sampling of current developments for various local Little Free Libraries:

  • We should see a Little Free Library at Sherwood Heights Mobile Home Park sometime soon. A teenager who lives in the neighborhood has already been running her own library of sorts, signing out books to neighbors and after hearing about Little Libraries, her Dad is now planning to build a little library.
  • The Little Library for The Terraces of Park Place is moving along.  They are getting ready for grand opening of their community garden and their Little Free Library will be built right next to the tool shed by the garden.
  • Diane Gagel is with the management company who runs Highlander Point in Floyds Knobs.  She thinks they may have several Little Free Libraries once the first one goes up.  She has also made contact with several builders with the Home Builders Association who say they will help as well.
  • Jim Grahn is planning one for his neighborhood of Crandon Park in Clarksville.
  • Roger Fisher offered to create stickers for inside cover of books, bookmarks, brochure, etc.

In addition to the individual efforts of neighbor connecting with neighbor to personally build libraries together, there are also a couple of Little Free Library projects being created through various donations:

  • The Henryville Correctional Facility has been working on a couple of libraries and we hope to have some photos soon on this project.
  • Two grants have been awarded for local libraries. The Jeffersonville Rotary awarded a $500 grant. Another $300 grant has also been received so Phyllis Wilkins has ordered two Amish Little Free Libraries  which were shipped this week.  These will be the Charley Reisert and Edwin Crooks memorial libraries.
